Political motivation, the usual excuse
Cleo Kirk, a sitting Shelby County Commissioner of District 3 in Tennessee is in the spotlight. A former administrator Calvin Williams named him as the person who is going to face a federal sexual harassment complaint. This one is going to be an interesting political battle actually, since Williams himself is going to face trial for having been charged with bribing in order to influence “business transactions” of the County.
Williams disclosing Kirk’s name to the media may seem little odd. In fact, he says, “I'm going to say it, because that is the truth, and he'll have to answer the best way he (Kirk) can”.
One wonders why? Well, just look at Williams’ own trysts with justice. Not just bribe to influence business, he was in the same corner as Kirk for three and half years. He was charged with influencing to cover up a sexual harassment case in the Juvenile Court Clerk’s Office. Finally he and two of his colleagues blamed it all on “political motivations” and saw the charges dropped.
Seasoned men’s political vendetta apart, the 12-year commission staff member Lynn Ford, who claims an “unnamed” Shelby County commissioner sexually harassed her, creating a sexually hostile work environment, must be awarded justice. And for that, she should not have to wait for another four years.
